Charlette Ball is a children's book author, publisher, and the creator of the Leona the Brave series. Originally from Stark County, Ohio, Charlette moved to Kentucky in 1990 as one of eight children. Her writing journey began in the third grade when she penned the original draft of Monsters Under My Bed, which won state writing awards in Hardin County, Kentucky, in 1994. The early edition was lovingly illustrated by her late mother, Bonita Newill. Though the manuscript sat tucked away in boxes for decades, life brought the story back to light. In 2015, Charlette met her future husband and publishing partner, John; they married in 2022. Following her mother's passing in 2023 and the birth of her first child in 2024, Charlette found the profound inspiration she needed to finally bring the book to the world. Together, she and John founded their own publishing company in 2026, launching Monsters Under My Bed in July 2026, followed closely by Fireflies and Fall Skies in October 2026. Today, Charlette writes to validate children's big emotions and give families the tools to grow together. She hopes that by creating children's books focusing on seeing the big world through the eyes of a child it reminds parents that children have strong emotions and they are all valid. She hopes to teach children coping skills so they can independently handle the tough challenges of being little in a big world and to help them communicate their feelings effectively. Her goal to help children and caregivers cultivate and maintain healthy relationships during the formative years. She hopes to help create a generation of readers who will grow into mature, understanding, and compassionate citizens, parents, and spouses by connecting with Leona the Brave and mirroring her socially acceptable behaviors as children.
