Gulbadan Begum (1523-1603), the daughter of Mughal Emperor Babur, was a writer and adventurer. Annette Susannah Beveridge (1842-1929) was a British scholar who translated The Babur Nama (the memoirs of Mughal Emperor Babur) and Gulbadan's Humayun Nama into English. Ruby Lal is professor of South Asian history at Emory University and the 2027 Kluge Chair in Countries and Cultures of the South at the Library of Congress. She is the author of Empress: The Astonishing Reign of Nur Jahan, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in History, and Vagabond Princess: The Great Adventures of Gulbadan, longlisted for the Cundill History Prize.
