This children's picture book explores the issue of young kids who are hesitant, afraid, or unwilling to express their feelings. In the story, a cat and dog both feel worried and scared when their person leaves the house. Each wonders if they have been left alone forever or if she will come back again, but they both keep their feelings locked deep inside and don't understand that the other one is worried and scared too. Eventually they find a way to reach out wordlessly and feel safe together.
Adults will relate to the situation with caring and empathy, and young children will understand the worried feelings being expressed by the dog and cat, and see their good feelings at the end when they share. An excellent book for parents, teachers, and caregivers of children 4-7 to open a conversation about feelings.
