Ethics and Values in School -- Capturing the Spirit of Education: It examines how ethics, values and moral development are promoted by Bangladesh school curriculum and textbooks, teacher preparation and performance, classroom practices, school culture and student learning. The study presents sixteen recommendations grouped under four headings: learning content and pedagogy, school environment and culture, the social context of school, and the implications of the values profile of key actors. The aim is to help provide the post-millennial generation a moral compass to guide themselves in the 21st century. The study makes an original contribution to conceptual clarity and methodology in research on ethics and values education. In the general social context that generates pessimism, a key positive message of the study is the potential role of the teacher, individually and collectively -- his/her capabilities, professional competence and ethical position.
