London-born Margery Williams (1881-1944) lived in England and the United States and published her first novel at the age of 21. In 1922 she published The Velveteen Rabbit, the first and best-known of her 30 books for young people.William Nicholson (1872-1949) illustrated many books but is best remembered as a painter whose portraits are exhibited in museums and galleries throughout England. He was knighted in 1936.
